Officials reported this morning, that an 8-year-old Guatemalan boy has passed away while in custody of United States Customs and Border Protection.
The young boy was showing several signs of early illness on Christmas Eve after being previously detained with his father. On Monday afternoon the boy was treated at a hospital in New Mexico where he was prescribed ibuprofen and amoxicillin for what seemed to be a common cold. After being released, the boy returned with “nausea and vomiting” only to die a few hours later.
This event marks the second death of a migrant child following 7-year-old Jakelin Caal Maquin who passed away December 8th 2018 in El Paso, TX. Jakelin’s body was recently returned to Raxruha, northern Guatemala.
This is a developing story, information will be added as time progresses.
